36meals.com First Meals Day report!

36meals.com Updates and Appreciation!

Welcome to all the people who have pledged and also to all the people who haven’t but are reading this blog now. From times immemorial, man has been trying to make his life worth living and tried to do his best in order to have access to the most attractive things. But, what he has forgotten is that, there are millions of his fellow beings who go to sleep hungry every single night. A Helping hand to feed a mouth can save someone’s life. 36meals.com is rightly up for it! In this regard the progress of this vision in just a matter of 60days has been brilliant!
It gives immense pleasure to let you know that almost 750 people from 33 countries are supporting the cause. Exclusively we would like to illuminate the efforts of the Hyderabad team from India, who put efforts to unite on the festival of Diwali(in India) to translate this mission to reality. 60+ meals were donated on the auspicious occasion to the genuine needy.
Kudos to the team in Hyderabad! Meanwhile, the team in Kenya led by Calvin Jodisi has been promoting the cause to all whom they know and have come in touch with, which has passed triggers of inspiration to the lady Ashleigh Sean Rolle, who has taken a BIG presentation in Bahamas for school children!
“Light a lamp & burst a cracker” is age old Diwali; Feed a needy, spread a smile is IU Diwali. Every individual’s effort will be a milestone in the journey to make this mission successful. Together we can erase the problems due to hunger from the world.

36meals.com Meals Day & World Youth Parliament Promotions!

36meals.com is the name that people are chanting all across the globe today. It is really great to see the expanding vision. Definitely, we would like to thank all our representatives, who are supporting this cause and helping us reach our purpose.

This is getting proved again and again that the world still respects and supports good deeds. Well, as all of us know there was a camp conducted by 36meals.com on its 36th day. It’s true that, when you walk with a mission, many join hands for your vision. We were glad to see great responses from different parts of the world. In a single day about 448 meals were donated, meaning, 448 needy, slept hunger free that day.

Meanwhile, It also gives us an immense pleasure to bring to your notice, that recently at the World Youth Parliament at Kenya, our idea of 36meals.com was announced. It gives even more pleasure indeed, to let you know, it was announced by the Your Big Year Ambassador for 2011, Mr. Michael Teoh. Congratulations to all the representatives of the world.

Here we would like to reckon Mr. Calvin Jodisi, from Kenya for his efforts and genuine support. Let us all genuinely get together to make some difference in the lives of those who almost lost the hopes of their sustenance. Being humane is what makes us different from other animals. After all they also have rights to live. Many are dying due to hunger. Let us show them what the word ‘world’ means in real. Let’s do it.

Regards,

Money is yours, but resources belong to society - Food - Most importantly!

~By Anonymous! Contributed by Bharath JN, Bangalore, INDIA

Germany is a highly industrialized country. It produces top brands like Benz, BMW, and Siemens etc. The nuclear reactor pump is made in a small town in this country. In such a country, many think, its people lead a luxurious life. At least that was my impression, before this study trip of mine.

When I arrived at Hamburg. My colleagues, who work in Hamburg arranged a welcome party for me, in a  really nice restaurant. As we walked into the restaurant, we noticed, that a lot of tables were empty. There was one table where a young couple was seated, enjoying a meal. But, there were only two dishes and two cans of beer on the table. We wondered if such simple meal could be romantic, and whether the girl would leave this stingy guy.

There were a few old ladies on another table. When a dish is served, the waiter would distribute the food for them, and they would finish every bit of the food on their plates. My impression again was, they could not afford much, but anyways, We did not pay much attention to them, as we were looking forward to the dishes we ordered. We were really hungry, and hence our local colleague ordered more food for us.

As the restaurant was quiet, the food came quite fast. Since there were other activities arranged for us, we did not spend much time dining. When we left, there was still about one third of unconsumed food on the table.

When we were leaving the restaurant, we heard someone calling us. We noticed, the old ladies in the restaurant, were talking about us to the restaurant owner. When they spoke to us in English, we understood that they were unhappy, about us wasting so much food. We immediately felt that they were really being too nosy.

We said: "We paid for our food, it's none of your business, how much food we leave behind," my colleague Gui told the old ladies.

The old ladies got furious, and one of them immediately made a call to someone. After a while, a man in uniform arrived, claimed to be an officer from the Social Security organization. Upon knowing what the dispute was, he issued a 50 Mark fine on us.
We all kept quiet. The local colleague, then took out a 50 Mark note and repeatedly apologized to the officer.

The officer then told us in a stern voice: "ORDER WHAT YOU CAN CONSUME, MONEY IS YOURS BUT RESOURCES BELONG TO THE SOCIETY. THERE ARE MANY OTHERS IN THE WORLD, WHO ARE FACING SHORTAGE OF RESOURCES. YOU HAVE NO REASON TO WASTE.´”

Our face turned red. We all agreed with him in our hearts.

The mindset of people, of this rich country, put all of us to shame. WE REALLY NEED TO REFLECT ON THIS. We might be from countries which may not have as much resources, we need to be more watchful while consuming and more respectful towards resources.

To save face, we order large quantities of food, and also waste food when we treat our friends, families and relatives

THIS INCIDENT, TAUGHT US A BIG LESSON, TO THINK SERIOUSLY, ABOUT CHANGING OUR BAD HABITS!!!

WE PLEDGE NOT TO WASTE ANYMORE, WHAT ABOUT YOU?

Eat to Live, Do not live to eat! Food belongs to society, not just to us!

By Shreyas M Koti

Food is an essential part of living. Among all human activities eating undoubtedly has the greatest effect on health! After breathing, eating is what we do most frequently during a lifetime.

According to 2010 estimate by FAO, out of 7 billion people in the world approximately, there are 925 million hungry people in the world, 13.1 percent, or almost 1 in 7 people are hungry.

  • This year (2011) it has already crossed 1 billion. And not shockingly India has the highest number of hungry people on the earth.
  • The number of hungry people in India has increased by 65 million — more than the population of France — because economic development, excluded the rural poor, and welfare programs failed to reach them.
  • Research forecasts that average international prices of key staples, such as maize, will increase by between 120 and 180 per cent by 2030, with up to half of this increase due to climate change and wastage of food.
  • The world’s poorest people, who spend up to 80 per cent of their income on food, will be hit hardest.

So there’s a lot how each and everyone can make a difference. There are a billion online people today (including you) who can make this difference. A billion for a billion!! High time!!
A lot of people, websites and companies are working towards this cause. One such very good initiative taken by an Organistaion 36meals.com(www.36meals.com). Which gives you simple and easy ways to address the issue.
“Food for thought is no substitute for the real thing”
“If we can conquer space, we can conquer childhood hunger”
“Those who wish for a more peaceful, just and
sustainable world, are helping in making,
ending world hunger a major priority.
Together we can end hunger.”
Let’s Join Hands…
